Guwahati: The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has inaugurated the 68th Men’s and 48th Women’s All India Inter Railway Basketball Championship 2025, organized by the NFR Sports Association (NFRSA) at its Indoor Stadium in Maligaon. The national-level event, being held from November 3 to 11, brings together top-performing basketball teams from across Indian Railways.
The opening ceremony was graced and inaugurated by Chetan Kumar Shrivastava, General Manager of NFR, in the presence of senior railway officials, players, and sports enthusiasts. In his inaugural address, Shrivastava extended a warm welcome to all participating teams and wished them success in the competition, emphasizing NFR’s continued commitment to promoting sports and fitness among railway personnel.

This year’s championship has attracted 20 men’s teams and 14 women’s teams, featuring over 500 participants, including referees, selectors, and observers. The men’s matches will be held from November 3 to 10, while the women’s category will take place from November 6 to 11.
A total of 27 referees, along with 6 selectors and 2 observers nominated by the Railway Board, are overseeing the matches to ensure smooth and transparent conduct. Widely regarded as one of the most prestigious events in the Indian Railways’ sporting calendar, the All India Inter Railway Basketball Championship serves as a key platform to identify and nurture basketball talent across railway zones.
NFR, with its enduring tradition of supporting sports excellence, takes immense pride in hosting this year’s tournament and continues to inspire a strong culture of athleticism and teamwork among railway employees.
