CM Sarma Dismisses Assam Congress Induction Drive as ‘Child’s Play’

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday ridiculed the Congress’s monthly induction drive, calling it “child’s play” and accusing the party’s leadership of lacking political maturity.

Responding to questions from reporters during the launch of a state welfare scheme providing subsidised food items to NFSA beneficiaries, Sarma dismissed the Congress’s claim that thousands were joining the party every month.

“This is not joining. If someone joins a party, there must be a leader’s name attached to it. The Congress president here does not understand politics — this is mere child’s play,” Sarma said, prompting laughter from the audience.

He contrasted the Congress’s publicity efforts with the BJP government’s focus on governance and welfare delivery. “While they are busy with publicity gimmicks, we are busy improving lives through development,” he added.

Earlier, Sarma launched the Food Security Scheme, under which NFSA families will receive masoor dal, sugar, and salt at subsidised rates, aimed at easing the financial burden on low-income households.
