Dhubri: In a major political development, over 1,000 people from various political parties, including the BJP, AGP, and several regional organisations, formally joined the Congress Party during a massive joining programme held today at the District Library, Dhubri. The event was organised by the Dhubri District Congress Committee.

The meeting, presided over by District Congress President Asma Khatun, was attended by several senior leaders. Dhubri MP Rakibul Hussain, the chief guest, delivered a powerful address sharply criticising the ruling BJP and Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma.

In his speech, Hussain raised serious concerns about syndicate operations, the process of granting Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to six communities, and the alleged murder of popular artist Zubeen Garg. He questioned the delay in uncovering the truth behind the incident, stating that “Justice for Zubeen Garg is becoming like an elephant’s tusk — visible on the outside but hollow within.”

Prominent Congress leaders Abdus Sobahan Sarkar (MLA, Golokganj), Wazed Ali Choudhury (MLA, South Salmara), and Mostafa Khaddam Hussain, General Secretary, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee, were also present.

The event concluded on an enthusiastic note, with new members pledging to strengthen the Congress Party in Dhubri ahead of the upcoming political season.
