Tezpur: Under the initiative of the Assam state committee of the Bharatiya Dalit Sahitya Academy the 64th Teachers’ Day was observed at Guwahati Press Club on the occasion of the birth anniversary of eminent philosopher Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan with several programmes. The programme held for the occasion was presided over by Ajit Kumar Das, Advisor of the Assam state committee of the Academy and conducted jointly by State President Ashwini Kumar Nath and Vice President Sankusiddha Nath began with lighting of the ceremonial lamp by member of Dalit Sahitya Academy Janmejoyee Das and Secretary of the Assam chapter of Dalit Sahitya Academy Ranjan Boro garlanded the portrait of the Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan paying rich tribute to the great leader of the nation. During the programme a total of 37 numbers of distinguished teachers from the state were felicitated by the Academy for their notable services in their field. Welcoming the teachers and the guests, State Committee President of the Bharatiya Dalit Sahitya Academy Aswini Kumar Nath commended the role of teachers in making our society and said,‘Teachers play a pivotal role in building an educated society, honouring these gurus is akin to serving society at large.’ Among the distinguished teachers felicitated by the organization were Binanda Swargiary of Tamulpur, Dr. Namita Das Gurung (Sarupeta), Ananda Kalita (Dibrugarh), Deepak Roy (Bajali), Sonali Guha Roy (Dhubri), Ranjit Kumar Das (Baksa),Bhuban Chettri (Sonitpur), Anil Gautam (Khanamukh), Deepchand Satnami (Bahbera) and several others. Noted personalities attended the programme as distinguished guests were Hemchandra Kalita (Advisor, Bharatiya Dalit Sahitya Academy, Assam State Committee), noted teacher of Nagaon Bhairab Mahanta, State Awardee Teacher of Dhubri (2021) Jayarani Roy, Organising Secretary of Asam Sahitya Sabha Dulal Nath and senior media person Sonadhar Deka.
