Guwahati: The Assam unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced a statewide blood donation drive to commemorate the 53rd birth anniversary of late cultural icon Zubeen Garg on November 18. Announcing the initiative at a press conference, BJP Assam President Dilip Saikia said the party will organise 53 blood donation camps across all districts, aiming to collect over 5,300 units of blood.
Saikia informed that a letter has been sent to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, seeking the state government’s support for the initiative. “The Chief Minister has directed the National Health Mission (NHM) to provide necessary assistance to ensure the success of this mega drive,” he said.
The Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) will lead the campaign, while nahor saplings will be planted at every donation site as a symbolic tribute to Zubeen Garg. Saikia added that the BJP also plans to install statues of Garg in all constituencies represented by party MLAs.

The BJP will continue its ‘Justice for Zubeen Garg’ rally, demanding a fast-track court trial into the singer’s death.
Addressing national issues, Saikia condemned the car blast near Delhi’s Red Fort, which killed 12 people, and urged swift justice. He also criticised Assam Congress chief Gaurav Gogoi for failing to act against a party leader’s alleged “insensitive remarks,” calling for accountability to maintain peace and harmony.
