Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has sparked a political firestorm with his explosive allegations against Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi, accusing him and his family of working as agents of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). Sarma claimed that Gogoi’s silence on terrorism and Pakistan-related issues is deliberate and motivated, citing his delayed condemnation of terror incidents in India.
Sarma alleged that Gogoi’s social media activity, including his Facebook post on the Delhi blast, shows a lack of courage to speak against terrorism. The Chief Minister claimed to have evidence supporting his allegations, but has not yet made it public, citing the ongoing investigation into singer Zubeen Garg’s death. Gogoi has previously dismissed Sarma’s allegations as a “C-grade Bollywood film” that will flop as the people of Assam understand the politics behind it.
The verbal duel between Sarma and Gogoi adds a new dimension to the intensifying political rivalry in Assam, where national security and patriotism have become contentious issues between the ruling BJP and the Congress. The Congress camp has yet to issue an official response to Sarma’s allegations, but the remarks are expected to trigger strong political reactions and deepen the ongoing war of words between the two parties.
