Tinsukia: Amid heightened security across Assam following the recent IED blast at a Delhi Metro station, Digboi Police on Tuesday seized a Bolero pick-up vehicle with suspected forged registration documents from Charali Bazar in Tinsukia district.
According to police sources, the vehicle had been operating commercially around the town using a falsified registration number. Acting on a credible tip-off, a police team intercepted the vehicle and brought it under immediate investigation.
“The possessor of the vehicle failed to produce any valid documents to establish ownership,” a police source confirmed. Eyewitnesses claimed that during the operation, the suspect removed the number plate himself in an attempt to mislead officers, causing brief confusion before police regained control of the situation.

A local businessman familiar with the vehicle alleged it was purchased from a seller in Golaghat who had outstanding dues with a finance company. The current possessor allegedly tampered with the registration number to avoid repayment or legal action.
The seizure comes at a time of increased vigilance nationwide after an IED blast near Delhi’s Red Fort involving a privately owned vehicle. Police have launched a detailed probe to trace the vehicle’s origin and verify any links to unlawful activities. Security checks have since been intensified across Tinsukia district as a precautionary measure.
