Mumbai, Sep 6: A day after an unidentified person threatened blasts across the entire city using over 400 kgs of RDX, the Mumbai Police Crime Branch has arrested 50-year-old Ashwini Kumar Supra from Noida in Uttar Pradesh.
Officials said Supra, originally a resident of Bihar, had sent the threat message using a mobile phone and a SIM card, both of which has been seized by the investigators. The accused had sent messages from different numbers. We traced him to Noida in Uttar Pradesh.
He will be produced in a court in Mumbai today. Prima facie, it seems like a bunch of hoax messages sent with the intent of creating nuisance or mischief. Further investigation in the matter is going on.
A case has been registered at Worli police station against an unidentified person under section 351 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and sub-sections 2, 3, and 4.
“We take each threat seriously. During Ganesh Chaturthi festival, there is added alertness. We have already seized the phones which were used for the crime,” according to a senior police officer.
The investigation was led by DCP Raj Tilak Roshan, and was guided by Additional Commisioner of Police, Crime Branch Shailesh Balkawade, Joint Commissioner of Police, Crime Lakhmi Gautam and Mumbai Police Commissioner Deven Bharti.
