Guwahati: The Assam government has welcomed the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) decision to conduct a Special Revision of the state’s electoral rolls, with January 1, 2026, set as the qualifying date.

Sarma added that the state administration would extend full cooperation to the ECI and its voter awareness programme, @ECISVEEP. He said instructions have been issued to district and local authorities to ensure the exercise reaches all regions, including remote and border areas.

Officials said the Special Revision aims to streamline the electoral database ahead of upcoming elections. Citizens will be able to verify their details, include missing names, correct errors, and remove duplicate or outdated entries. Local election offices will conduct camps and awareness drives across towns and villages to support voters in completing the updating process efficiently.
