Assam Shines with 28 Medals at Asia Masters Athletics Championship 2025

Guwahati: Assam’s Masters athletes delivered a remarkable performance at the 23rd Asia Masters Athletics Championship 2025, held from 5–9 November at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai, securing an impressive 28 medals — 7 Gold, 13 Silver and 8 Bronze — in individual events. The strong showing highlighted Assam’s growing stature in Masters athletics on the continental stage.

Among the standout performers were Moromi Devi Roy (W45+), who claimed Silver in Javelin; Anima Sonowal (W50+), who excelled with Gold in Pole Vault, Silver in High Jump and Bronze in Triple Jump; and Shewali Nath (W55+), who won Bronze in the 400m. Veteran athletes also made their mark, including Mayabati Basumatary (W65+) with a Silver in 200m and Bronze in Discus, and Marjina Begum (W65+) with multiple medals across hurdles and sprints.

Assam also celebrated top podium finishes from Minu Saikia (W65+) in High Jump, Champa Gogoi (W80+) in Shot Put and Hammer Throw, Pabitra Bhuiya (M55+) in Shot Put, Nirendra Nath Basumatary (M75+) in Javelin, and Haren Burhagohain (M80+) in the 100m sprint.

In the relay events, Shewali Nath, Mamoni Saikia, Mayabati Basumatary, and Rita Borchetia, representing India, added further glory with Silver and Bronze medals.

The Assam Masters Athletics Association, led by lifelong president Arjun Bhogeshwar Baruah, congratulated all participants and extended best wishes for greater achievements in the years ahead.
