Asomiya Yuva Mancha Stages Protest Alleging Illegal Oil Syndicate in Mariani

The Asomiya Yuva Mancha (AYM) staged a demonstration at the Oilmesk Energy oil field in Selenghat ghat, Mariani, on Sunday, demanding urgent action against what it alleges to be a large-scale crude oil theft and adulteration racket. Protesters blocked access to the site and raised slogans, accusing authorities of ignoring repeated complaints.

According to the organisation, a local syndicate has been illegally mixing chemicals with crude oil extracted from the field and selling the adulterated product through select depots without any valid documentation. Protesters claimed that the operation has been ongoing and has caused significant financial loss to the state while undermining public trust in the oil sector.

AYM leaders said the matter had been previously discussed with the district administration, but no concrete action has been taken. Addressing the gathering, the organisation’s president said the group expects swift intervention from the administration, relevant departments and the Assam government. He warned that failure to act may compel the youth body to escalate its agitation.

The demonstrators argued that unchecked malpractice in the oil sector poses safety risks and undermines accountability in a strategically important industry. They emphasised the need for strict enforcement and transparent monitoring mechanisms to prevent further illegal trade.

Authorities are yet to issue a formal response to the allegations, though the protest has intensified calls for an official investigation into the claims surrounding the oil field’s operations.
