Rare Documentary ‘Bhupen Da Uncut’ Showcased at IFFI, Offers Intimate Glimpse Into Bhupen Hazarika’s Life

A rare archival documentary titled Bhupen Da Uncut, featuring previously unseen footage of Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, captivated audiences at the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa. The film was screened on 23 November at Maquinez Palace–1 in Panjim, followed by a second screening on 24 November at Kala Academy, organised by Cinemala.

Shot in the United Kingdom in 1999, the documentary presents candid and deeply personal moments of the legendary singer, composer and cultural icon. The footage, preserved for 25 years, offers viewers an unfiltered window into his creative process, emotions and reflections during an important phase of his artistic journey.

IFFI described the film as a rare opportunity to witness unpublished poems, spontaneous interactions and the enduring spirit of a visionary whose influence continues to resonate across generations. Festival organisers noted that Bhupen Da Uncut stands as a heartfelt cinematic tribute to Dr. Hazarika’s unmatched cultural legacy.

Directed by Bobbeeta Sharma, the documentary features cinematography by Chinmoy Sharma and editing by Ravindra Badgaiyan, with a presenter script written by Jimoni Choudhury. Produced under the Sangita Advertising banner, the film is backed by Chinmoy Sharma and Bobbeeta Sharma.

The special screening received warm appreciation from admirers of Dr. Hazarika’s work, reaffirming his timeless contribution to Indian music, literature and cultural thought on an international stage.
