Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi on 2 December criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party for excluding major issues raised by opposition parties from the Winter Session agenda. He said the BJP had refused for the second consecutive day to include what he described as the opposition’s most important concern.
Gogoi questioned the purpose of pre-session meetings, arguing that the government had ignored concerns expressed by political parties. In a post on X, he wrote: “Why is the BJP taking the Parliament for granted? Why have symbolic meetings before the Parliament session where you pretend to care about the concerns of political parties when you don’t even mention it in the day-to-day agenda?”
He noted that the ongoing Winter Session had only 15 working days, making it one of the shortest in recent years. Opposition leaders have argued that the curtailed schedule prevents adequate debate on national issues.
Gogoi further asked whether the BJP was “deliberately seeding chaos in India’s parliament,” reflecting wider dissatisfaction among opposition ranks over the conduct of the session.
On 1 December, the Congress leader had accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of “hijacking the Parliament of India,” alleging that the government was blocking meaningful discussions.
