Guwahati: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday inaugurated the newly constructed railway overbridge at Jamunamukh in Hojai district. Built at a cost of around ₹83 crore, the 951-metre-long structure features a 7.5-metre-wide motorable carriageway, significantly boosting connectivity in the region, an official release stated.
During his visit, the Chief Minister also virtually inaugurated the Model High School at Balijuri Tea Estate along with Jagannath Community Halls and Skill Centres at Kandali, Dhantola and Sagunbahi Tea Estates. He additionally laid the foundation stones for new school buildings at Barhampur Higher Secondary School and Jamunamukh Higher Secondary School.
Sarma launched a series of major flood-protection and road connectivity projects under the Nagaon Water Resources Division. These include strengthening the right bank of the Kopili river from Jamunamukh–Chikamari to Milonpur and Jamunamukh to Patiapam, as well as several left-bank stretches from Bakulguri to Jamunamukh RCC bridge, Jamunamukh bridge to Premjan–Gosaigaon, Gosaigaon to Chaibuk, and Pub-Kawoimari to Borchung. Anti-erosion work on the Haria river from Palsa to Pub Tetelisara also began.

Addressing a public meeting, the Chief Minister called the day “significant” for the Barhampur constituency. He said the new overbridge will ensure smooth travel between Dabaka, Kampur and Jamunamukh railway stations. Noting the recurring floods caused by the Kopili river, he highlighted that the Water Resources Department has taken up projects worth ₹80 crore to provide long-term relief.
Sarma added that developmental activities across Barhampur have accelerated, with flyovers at Chaparmukh and Kampur already completed and road and stadium projects worth ₹350 crore underway. He said the current government has revitalised welfare and infrastructure initiatives, adding that new school buildings will now be constructed at ₹6–8 crore each, a substantial increase from earlier minimal funding.
