Cylinder Blast at IOCL Bottling Plant in North Guwahati 

North Guwahati: A serious incident occurred at the IOCL bottling plant in North Guwahati on Saturday afternoon when a cylinder exploded during the gas loading process, leaving a worker critically injured. 

The injured worker has been identified as Arabinda Barman of Kokrajhar. He was rushed to Patna Orthopaedics Hospital in North Guwahati, where he remains in critical condition, according to hospital sources.

Preliminary investigations suggest lapses in safety equipment at the plant. Observers have also pointed out that the facility relies heavily on casual workers, raising concerns about inadequate workplace safety measures. Locals alleged that IOCL authorities have been ignoring repeated warnings and ongoing concerns about operational hazards.

Barman, a temporary employee of Shree Om Construction Pvt Ltd, had been working at the plant for several years with hopes of being upgraded to a permanent position.

The incident has sparked outrage among residents, who fear potential large-scale accidents if safety standards are not improved. With major institutions such as IIT Guwahati, Kendriya Vidyalaya IIT, and several residential areas located near the bottling plant, locals have demanded urgent action from the authorities to ensure public safety and prevent future tragedies.
