Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on December 12 affirmed that those responsible for the death of singer Zubeen Garg “will be punished as per law,” shortly after the Special Investigation Team submitted its chargesheet to the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court in Guwahati. He said several suspects had already been arrested and emphasised that the judicial process would now determine accountability.
The development marks a crucial milestone in the ongoing investigation into Garg’s death, which was initially reported as an accidental drowning in Singapore on 19 September 2025. Sarma has consistently rejected the early version of events, asserting both in the assembly and in media interactions that evidence indicated a “plain and simple murder,” involving a key accused and others who allegedly aided the act.
While the contents of the chargesheet remain undisclosed, officials said it encapsulates the findings of months of inquiry. The case is now poised to face heightened public attention as it moves through the court.
