Tripura Police intensified their crackdown on narcotics trafficking with a series of successful operations across the state, seizing drugs worth more than ₹1.5 crore and arresting six people in Dhalai district within a single night.
According to police officials, the latest seizures were made late on Monday in the Ambassa sub-division of Dhalai district following credible intelligence inputs. Acting swiftly, police teams carried out two separate operations targeting suspected drug movements in the area.
In the first operation, a white Maruti WagonR was intercepted at the Upanagar Naka on National Highway-08. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 45 grams of suspected brown sugar (heroin) along with 20,000 YABA tablets. In a second operation conducted near the Ambassa Fire Station, police recovered another 24 grams of suspected brown sugar concealed inside soap cases. All six individuals linked to the seizures were taken into custody.
Police said the estimated market value of the narcotics seized during the two operations is approximately ₹1.5 crore. Separate cases have been registered at Ambassa Police Station under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further investigation is underway to identify supply chains and links to larger networks.
The Dhalai district seizures came just hours after police achieved another major breakthrough on December 15, detaining four persons from Dharmanagar in North Tripura district and Kumarghat in Unakoti district with drugs valued at over ₹4 crore.
Reiterating its commitment to combating drug trafficking, Tripura Police said coordinated intelligence-led operations would continue across the state to curb the spread of narcotics and dismantle organised drug networks.
