Security forces in Manipur have recovered a cache of firearms during a search operation in Churachandpur district, even as the state’s top police leadership carried out a detailed assessment of the security environment in the area.
Officials said the recovery was made on December 16 from the general area of Khaopijang village cemetery, which falls under the jurisdiction of Churachandpur Police Station. The seized weapons included an AK rifle, an MA-3 MK II rifle, an INSAS rifle and a .315 rifle, each with accompanying magazines. Authorities have launched further investigation to determine how the arms reached the area and to identify those connected to the cache.
On the same day, the Director General of Police, Manipur, visited Churachandpur as part of a high-level review of the district’s law and order situation. During the visit, the DGP inaugurated a newly constructed conference room at the office of the Superintendent of Police, Churachandpur, marking an addition to the district’s policing infrastructure.
The DGP later chaired a comprehensive security review meeting attended by senior officers of the Manipur Police and other security agencies deployed in the district. Discussions focused on assessing the current security scenario, reviewing operational readiness and enhancing coordination among different forces.
In addition to meetings with officials, the DGP also interacted with representatives of various civil society organisations from Churachandpur. Issues related to security concerns, public cooperation and peace-building efforts were discussed during the interaction. Police officials said the visit reflected the leadership’s continued focus on maintaining stability and strengthening security arrangements in the sensitive district.
