DMF Funds to Boost Women Empowerment and Livelihoods in Margherita

Margherita: In an effort to promote women empowerment and sustainable livelihood opportunities, a meeting on the utilisation of the District Mineral Foundation (DMF) Trust under the Pradhan Mantri Khanij Kshetra Kalyan Yojana (PMKKKY) was held in Margherita under the chairmanship of Co-District Commissioner Rahul Doley. The session brought together officials and members of the Producers’ Group under the Assam State Rural Livelihoods Mission (ASRLM).

The DMF, a non-profit trust set up under the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 2015, aims to improve the lives of mining-affected communities. Discussions focused on challenges faced by Producers’ Groups and the need for training in piggery, goatery, poultry, dairy, mushroom cultivation, catering, tent management, and other allied sectors.

Doley stressed the importance of moving beyond raw production to value-added products, with an eye on reaching larger markets. It was also discussed that SHGs could use funds from the Mukhyamantrir Mahila Udyamita Asoni (MMUA) scheme for infrastructure support after training.

Currently, 60 Producers’ Groups with about 2,000 SHG members are engaged across 28 sectors, significantly contributing to women’s empowerment and local economic growth.

Assistant Commissioner Pronamika Konwar and Block Co-ordinator Joydeep Mallick also attended the meeting.
