Digboi: In a landmark move towards sustainable urban management, the Digboi Municipal Board on Wednesday inaugurated a modern fecal sludge treatment plant (FSTP) worth Rs 1.09 crore. The FSTP will ensure that untreated human waste is no longer discharged into open areas or water bodies. Instead, through advanced scientific processes, the waste will be converted into bio-fertilizer and usable liquid extracts suitable for farming. Municipal officials added that sludge collection from households will be carried out by the board at minimal cost, ensuring accessibility and affordability.

Phukan hailed the project as a bold step toward eco-friendly urban practices, placing Digboi in line with global sustainable development models.
