Tezpur: The district-level men’s and women’s volleyball tournament organised by the Tarun Asom Sangha, a well-known socio-cultural and sports organisation of the region, concluded here on Sunday. The two-day tournament was held from December 20.
In the men’s final, the Bahbari team clinched the championship title, while the Tarun Asom team emerged champions in the women’s category. The matches, played from evening till late night on both days, drew a large number of spectators and created a vibrant sporting atmosphere across Tezpur town.The final match was formally inaugurated on Sunday night by Sonitpur District Sports Officer Pranjal Dihingia, who also greeted and encouraged the players.

Earlier, in the presence of Tarun Asom Sangha president Dr. Bhubaneswar Saharia, adviser Mahendra Nath Keot and other office-bearers, international bodybuilding champion Chaya Baruah was felicitated for bringing laurels to Tezpur, Sonitpur district and Assam by becoming a world champion. In the men’s final, Bahbari defeated Besseria in a keenly contested match to win the championship along with the Arati Sarma Memorial rolling trophy and a cash prize. In the women’s category, the Tarun Asom team won the Ratna Das Memorial rolling trophy along with a cash award.
Individual awards went to Lohit Garju of Bahbari (Best Lifter), Madhurjya Nath of Besseria (Best Blocker), Ritin Boro of Bahbari (Best Smasher) and Prachurya Sivam of Besseria (Promising Player). Jayashree Deka of the Tarun Asom team was adjudged the Best Player of the Tournament.
