Entertainment, Dec 31: Netflix has released the trailer for the final episode of Stranger Things, signalling the end of one of the streaming platform’s most successful series. The finale, titled The Rightside Up, will stream on December 31, 2025, with a simultaneous theatrical release.
The episode is the eighth and final chapter of Season 5, which was released in two parts. The first four episodes dropped on Thanksgiving Day, followed by three episodes on Christmas Day. Episode seven ended with a major revelation that sets the stage for the concluding confrontation.
In the previous episode, Max, played by Sadie Sink, regained consciousness and revealed the ultimate plan of the antagonist Vecna. She disclosed that Vecna intends to merge the human world with a parallel dimension beyond the Upside Down, known as the Abyss. The group then prepared a high-risk mission to enter the Abyss, rescue the children held there and destroy it using a bomb.
The episode closed with a chilling scene showing Vecna, still disguised as Henry Creel, leading his brainwashed victims in a séance as they were transported into the Abyss.
Netflix described the newly released footage as “one last trailer”. It revisits pivotal moments from across the series, including earlier battles with Vecna and other creatures, while hinting at a final showdown that brings together long-running storylines.
Created by brothers Matt and Ross Duffer, Stranger Things premiered in July 2016 and became a global phenomenon. Subsequent seasons were released in 2017, 2019 and 2022. The franchise has since expanded beyond television with the stage production Stranger Things: The First Shadow.
The finale will run for two hours and five minutes and marks the series’ first major theatrical outing, with screenings beginning on New Year’s Eve and continuing through January 1, alongside its release on Netflix.
