Serpents of Pakhangba to Bring Shamanic Art Metal Experience to Imphal

Imphal, Jan 2: Renowned shamanic art metal band Serpents of Pakhangba, widely regarded as one of the pioneering groups of its genre from North East India, is set to perform in Imphal, Manipur, on January 2. The concert will take place at The Venue by Elle’s and is expected to attract music lovers drawn to experimental sounds and indigenous musical fusions.

The event is being organised with the support of Extreme Entertainment and is anticipated to draw audiences from across the region. Details of the performance were shared during a press meet at Hotel Imolesh, where band members spoke about their journey and the philosophy that shapes their music.

Band founder Vishal J Singh described Serpents of Pakhangba as a collective that merges ancient Meitei mythology, traditional storytelling and a diverse array of indigenous instruments sourced from tribes around the world. He said the band’s work is rooted in cultural awareness while simultaneously engaging with contemporary metal music, creating a distinctive sonic identity.

Singh also announced that the programme will feature performances by other bands, including Ereimang, Innocent Eyes and The Square, among others. He appealed to music enthusiasts and the general public to attend the event and support the live music scene.

Vocalist Takako Haremaki highlighted the band’s belief that sound functions as an ancient form of language capable of expressing emotions beyond words. She said Serpents of Pakhangba draws inspiration from dragon deities found in both Japanese and Manipuri traditions, adding that presenting this shared cultural symbolism in Manipur holds special significance for the band.

The upcoming performance promises a rare blend of shamanic art, metal music and indigenous cultural elements, offering audiences an immersive musical experience that bridges ancient traditions and modern expression.
