BJP Rule in West Bengal Key to Tackling Bangladesh Infiltration: Himanta Biswa Sarma

Guwahati, Jan 9: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on January 9 said the Bharatiya Janata Party should form the government in West Bengal, asserting that a BJP-led administration across Tripura, Assam and West Bengal would strengthen efforts to curb illegal infiltration from Bangladesh.

Speaking on the issue, Sarma said that while Tripura and Assam have witnessed significant development under BJP governments, the absence of a similar dispensation in West Bengal has hampered coordinated action on border security. He claimed that West Bengal has emerged as a weak link in the region’s efforts to deal with illegal infiltration.

“For once, the BJP should form the government in West Bengal as we have strong supporters there. In Tripura, developmental works are being done, and similarly in Assam too. But because of West Bengal, we are unable to effectively fight against illegal infiltrators from Bangladesh,” Sarma said.

He added that a BJP government in all three states—Tripura, Assam and West Bengal—would put the region in a stronger position to address the issue in a coordinated and decisive manner.

The Chief Minister’s remarks come amid heightened political focus on border security and migration issues in eastern and northeastern India.
