Sikkim MP Indra Hang Subba Raises Delay in NH Projects with Union Minister

Gangtok, Jan 10: Sikkim Lok Sabha MP Indra Hang Subba on January 9 met Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways Harsh Malhotra in New Delhi and discussed the status of national highway projects being implemented by the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) in the state.

During the meeting, Subba flagged concerns over the slow progress of several highway projects in Sikkim, stating that delays were adversely affecting connectivity and overall development in the Himalayan state.

According to a statement issued by the MP’s office, Subba specifically highlighted the sluggish execution of National Highway-510, particularly Packages V and VI in Gyalshing district. He underlined the strategic and developmental significance of NH-510, noting that the project is vital for improving regional connectivity, boosting economic activities and enhancing public convenience in the district and adjoining areas.

The MP urged the Union minister to personally intervene to address the bottlenecks hindering progress and to ensure timely completion of the project.

The statement said Minister Harsh Malhotra assured due consideration of the issues raised and reiterated the Union Ministry’s commitment to strengthening road infrastructure in Sikkim and other Himalayan regions. He also conveyed that efforts would be made to resolve implementation challenges and expedite work on key national highway projects in the state.
