As part of the Prime Minister’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, ex-servicemen from Kokrajhar district organised a cleanliness drive at the Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma Children Park in Kokrajhar town, Assam, on January 12, 2026. The initiative aimed to promote civic responsibility and environmental awareness among the public.
The programme was coordinated under the guidance of retired Army Honorary Captain Karna Kumar Brahma, who is currently serving as the Zila Sainik Welfare Officer of Kokrajhar. He, along with the President and Secretary of the district’s ex-servicemen association, welcomed the participants and encouraged collective efforts towards maintaining clean public spaces.
Despite being senior citizens, the ex-servicemen actively took part in cleaning the children’s park, setting an example of dedication and social responsibility. Through their actions, they conveyed a message that cleanliness is a shared duty and that every citizen has a role to play in keeping the nation clean and green.
Highlighting their continued commitment to the Clean India, Green India campaign, Captain Brahma said that ex-servicemen in the district have been regularly organising cleanliness drives at public places over the years. He also noted that the group has carried out plantation activities at various locations, including roadside areas, to support environmental conservation.
Speaking on behalf of the ex-servicemen, retired Army officer Major Dr Dwimalu Khunggur Bwiswmuthiary, MBBS and MD, appealed to citizens to maintain cleanliness and undertake tree plantation in their surroundings. He emphasised that such collective efforts are vital for building a clean, healthy and environmentally sustainable nation.
