Mizoram Government Encourages Youth Enrolment in Armed Forces: CM Lalduhoma

Aizawl, Jan 15: Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma on January 14 said the state government was keen to see more youths from Mizoram join the Indian Army and other security forces and was taking steps to promote enrolment.

Addressing a programme in the state capital, Lalduhoma recalled the important role played by the Mizo community during India’s freedom movement, the Second World War and the conflicts fought after Independence in defence of the country.

Stating that the government wanted maximum participation of young people in the armed forces, the Chief Minister said all possible measures were being taken to encourage such careers. He informed that the state had raised the Mizo Territorial Army and that recruitment for the unit was currently in progress.

Lalduhoma also expressed concern over the low intake at Mizoram’s only Sainik School at Chhingchhip in Serchhip district and urged youths to consider enrolling in the institution as a stepping stone to joining the armed forces.

Highlighting welfare initiatives, the Chief Minister said the state government had introduced several schemes for war veterans and ex-servicemen. He added that the Zoram Medical College and Hospital and the Zemabawk Cancer Centre in Aizawl had been designated to provide free medical treatment to them.
