Hojai: Hojai District will now observe its Foundation Day on January 25 every year, District Commissioner Bidyut Bikash Bhagawati, ACS, announced at a meeting held on Saturday at the DC office conference hall in Srimanta Sankardev Nagar.
The meeting was convened to finalize the official date of the Foundation Day, with options of January 25—when Hojai was first granted district status in 2016—or September 17, when it regained district status in 2023 after being merged with Nagaon for the delimitation process. After discussions, it was unanimously resolved to commemorate January 25 as the Foundation Day annually.

The meeting, chaired by the DC, was attended by Hojai MLA Ramkrishna Ghosh, ADC Bonny Inam Shadab, DIPRO Aradhana Das, heads of departments, elected representatives of Zila Parishad, Municipal Boards, Sahitya Sabha members, Ajmal Foundation, Anfar Foundation, Chamber of Commerce, journalists’ associations, and civil society leaders.
Announcing the decision, the DC also informed that a week-long “Seva Hi Samarpan Saptah” will be observed from September 17 to 25, featuring blood donation camps, plantation drives in educational institutions, and mega medical camps.
MLA Ramkrishna Ghosh urged officials to work with full commitment for the success of Central and State Government schemes aimed at the district’s development.

The DC further appealed to residents to actively participate in initiatives to make Hojai a plastic-free, garbage-free, clean and green model district.
