Agartala, Jan 22: Tripura marked a landmark moment in its sporting history on January 21 as cricketer Manishankar Murasingh was felicitated in Agartala for completing 100 matches in the Ranji Trophy, a feat achieved for the first time by any player from the state. The ceremony, organised by the Tripura Cricket Association, brought together senior government leaders, former cricketers, sports officials and well-wishers to celebrate the milestone.
Chief Minister Manik Saha, who attended the event, hailed Murasingh as a symbol of pride for Tripura cricket. He noted that no player from the state had previously crossed even the 40 to 50 match mark in the premier domestic tournament, describing the achievement as a defining moment that could inspire a new generation of cricketers. According to Saha, Murasingh’s consistency and perseverance reflected the values that aspiring sportspersons in the state should strive to emulate.
The chief minister also pointed out that the felicitation taking place on Tripura’s Statehood Day added special significance to the occasion. He said Murasingh’s journey underscored the importance of discipline, hard work and long-term commitment in sports, and assured that the state government remained focused on strengthening sports infrastructure and expanding opportunities for young athletes across disciplines.
The Tripura Cricket Association acknowledged Murasingh’s sustained contribution to the state team over the years, crediting him with playing a key role in enhancing Tripura’s standing in domestic cricket. The ceremony concluded with formal honours and expressions of support for Murasingh’s continued success in his cricketing career.
