Mysterious Death of Woman and Two Daughters in East Jaintia Hills

Shillong: A suspected case of domestic violence has shaken Meghalaya after the bodies of a young woman and her two minor daughters were discovered under mysterious circumstances on Sunday.

The deceased have been identified as Rippa Das (24), wife of Arpan Das of Baraitoli, Katigorah in Assam’s Cachar district, and her two daughters — Arpita (5) and six-month-old Panchami. Their lifeless bodies were found inside their residence while Arpan was reportedly away at work in a local cement factory.

According to police sources, Arpan claimed that upon returning home in the evening, he discovered the tragedy and immediately informed his father-in-law. However, the victim’s father lodged a complaint at Katigorah Police Station, alleging foul play.

He accused Arpan of subjecting Rippa to regular physical and mental abuse, which allegedly worsened after the birth of two daughters, as he was reportedly unhappy over not having a son. He further claimed that the deaths were not a suicide but a deliberate murder, staged to mislead investigators.

Cachar Police have registered a case and launched a probe into the incident. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem, and authorities stated that further action will be taken based on forensic findings.
