Bongaigaon: A 47-year-old man was found dead inside a container truck near National Highway-27 at Manikpur in Assam’s Bongaigaon district this morning, prompting police to launch an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. According to police officials, the body was recovered from a container truck bearing registration number WB-19 T-8015, which was found parked off the highway along the roadside under the jurisdiction of Manikpur Police Station. Notably, the vehicle did not show any visible signs of damage, raising questions about how the incident occurred.

The matter came to light after local passers-by noticed the stationary truck for a prolonged period and alerted the police. Acting on the information, personnel from Manikpur Police Station rushed to the spot, conducted a preliminary inspection of the vehicle, and recovered the body from inside the container. The deceased was immediately taken to Manikpur Mahatma Gandhi Adarsha Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. He was later identified as Devajit Shikar (47), a resident of Uttarpara Kansar in West Burdwan district of West Bengal.
Police said the body has been kept in their custody for further legal formalities. The exact cause of death is yet to be ascertained and will be confirmed after a post-mortem examination. Officials added that an investigation is underway to determine whether the death was caused by a medical condition, foul play, or any other factor.
