Imphal, Jan 29: Manipur Police carried out multiple security operations across Imphal on January 28, leading to the arrest of two alleged militants linked to the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (City Meitei) and the recovery of a stolen two-wheeler, officials said.
In Imphal East district, security personnel apprehended a 19-year-old youth identified as Nongthombam Isingchaoba Singh, also known as Kondum, from Kongba Laishram Leikai Heinoubon under the jurisdiction of Porompat police station. A resident of Wangkhei Wangkheimayum Leirak, Singh has been identified as an active cadre of the proscribed KCP (City Meitei).
A separate operation in Imphal West district resulted in the arrest of another alleged member of the same outfit. Police detained Longjam Nelson Singh, alias Thoiba, aged 22, from Thangmeiband Hijam Dewan Leikai under Lamphel police station. Officials said he too was linked to the KCP (City Meitei).
On the same day, police also acted against vehicle theft in the state capital. Two suspected vehicle lifters, identified as I.K. Robert (24) of Awang Khunou Mayai Leikai and Md. Tomba (24) of Yairipok Phouden, were arrested from the Kanglapat area under Imphal police station. A red TVS Centra motorcycle bearing registration number AS-01-AA-4095, which had been reported stolen earlier in the day from the Kakhulong area, was recovered from their possession.
Police said further investigation is underway to establish additional links and ascertain the extent of involvement of the arrested individuals in militant activities and criminal cases.
