Guwahati, Feb 3: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on February 3 hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership after the announcement of an India–United States trade understanding that will lower tariffs on Indian exports to the American market. The agreement, under which duties on Made in India products exported to the US will be reduced to 15 per cent, was described by Sarma as a major boost for India’s manufacturing and export ecosystem.

In a post on social media platform X, the Chief Minister said the development marked an important moment for the country, noting that wider market access would translate into fresh opportunities for youth, farmers and micro, small and medium enterprises across India. He credited the outcome to what he termed the Prime Minister’s credible and globally respected statesmanship, which he said has strengthened India’s standing on the world stage.

Sarma added that the tariff reduction would act as a catalyst for deeper economic engagement between India and the United States, describing the agreement as a force multiplier for cooperation between the world’s largest and oldest democracies. According to him, the enhanced trade relationship would not only support economic growth but also contribute to broader global peace and prosperity.
