As preparations gather pace for the upcoming Assam Assembly elections, the Congress on February 3 announced the formation of its Pradesh Election Committee for the state, appointing Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Gaurav Gogoi as the chairperson of the panel.
The newly constituted 35-member committee features a mix of senior and experienced leaders, including Debabrata Saikia, Rakibul Hussain, Pradyut Bordoloi, Bhupen Kumar Borah, Ripun Borah, Paban Singh Ghatowar, Wajid Ali Chaudhary, Rosilina Tirkey, Jakir Hussain Sikdar, Pradeep Sarkar and Arun Dutta Mazumdar, among others, according to the party.
Apart from the nominated members, the committee will also include the APCC General Secretary (Organisation), heads of all frontal organisations of the state unit, and chairpersons of various affiliated departments such as the Scheduled Caste, Other Backward Classes, Minority and Adivasi Congress wings, along with the Tea Garden Cell of the APCC.
The reconstitution of the Pradesh Election Committee marks a key step in the Congress’s organisational and strategic buildup ahead of the polls scheduled in the coming months. Party leaders said the committee will play a central role in shaping the election strategy, finalising candidates and coordinating campaign efforts across constituencies.
With this move, the Congress has signalled its intent to intensify preparations and mount a determined challenge to the ruling BJP, as it seeks to reclaim political ground and return to power in Assam.
