Assam Congress Seeks Explanation From Party Joint Secretary Over Remarks Against Bhupen Borah

Guwahati, Feb 6: The Assam Congress on February 5 served a show-cause notice to its joint secretary, Panjak Saikia, over remarks he allegedly made in the media targeting former state party president Bhupen Kumar Borah, party sources said.

The notice was issued by Assam Pradesh Congress Committee general secretary (organisation) Bipul Gogoi, directing Saikia to submit a written explanation within 24 hours. The party leadership has viewed the comments as serious and potentially damaging to internal unity.

According to the notice, the remarks were brought to the attention of Assam PCC president Gaurav Gogoi and were made against Bhupen Kumar Borah, who is not only a former PCC president but also currently serves as the chairman of the party’s campaign committee in the state. The party stated that such public statements against senior leaders amount to indiscipline and go against established organisational norms.

Warning of possible consequences, the APCC made it clear that disciplinary action could follow if Saikia’s response is found to be unsatisfactory. The development comes at a time when the Congress is seeking to strengthen internal cohesion and avoid public disagreements as it gears up for upcoming political challenges in Assam.
