All Assam Inter-Institutional Taekwondo Championship Begins 

Guwahati: The two-day All Assam Inter-Institutional Taekwondo Championship 2026 commenced on Friday at the Dr. T. Ao Indoor Stadium of Cotton University, bringing together nearly 275 athletes from 60 educational institutions across the state. Participants from Higher Secondary to Postgraduate levels are competing in various categories, including Kyorugi, Junior and Senior divisions. The championship aims to encourage sporting talent among students and strengthen competitive sports culture in educational institutions across Assam.

The inaugural ceremony was attended by Director of Sports and Youth Welfare Ankur Bharali, Vice Chancellor of Cotton University Dr. Ramesh Chandra Deka and General Secretary of the All Assam Taekwondo Association Hiranya Saikia, among others. Addressing the gathering, Ankur Bharali conveyed his best wishes to the athletes and highlighted the state government’s efforts to promote sports at college and university levels. He stated that the Sports Department has been extending financial support and encouraging institutions to strengthen sports infrastructure and participation.

Bharali also informed that the flooring of the Dr. T. Ao Indoor Stadium was recently upgraded with maple wood, enhancing the facility for indoor sporting events and training activities. The championship is expected to witness intense competition and provide a platform for young taekwondo players to showcase their talent.
