Arms, Ammunition and Military Gear Recovered in Manipur’s Kakching

Security forces recovered a cache of firearms, ammunition and other military-related equipment during a search operation in the Wabagai Turenmamei area under Hiyanglam Police Station in Manipur’s Kakching district on August 11.

The operation resulted in the recovery of a .303 rifle with an empty magazine, a 9mm pistol with an empty magazine, three single-barrel guns and three carbines, also with empty magazines.

Security personnel further seized a 51mm mortar bomb, three tube-launching devices, two hand grenades and 18 live rounds of ammunition of different calibres.

Among the other items recovered were an INSAS rifle bayonet, military fatigues, BP plates, BP covers, communication sets and other miscellaneous equipment.

The recovery was made as security forces continued operations across Manipur to locate and remove illegally held weapons and other war-like stores. Similar joint operations in the state have recently led to the seizure of firearms, ammunition and explosives.

Authorities have not yet disclosed who possessed the recovered weapons or equipment or what they were allegedly intended for. Further details are awaited as the investigation continues.
