Severe artificial flooding has submerged roads, agricultural land and residential areas at Genduwa Pathar under Hati Jujua Panchayat in Nagaon district’s Rupahihat constituency, disrupting daily life and affecting farmers and students.
Residents attributed the waterlogging to inadequate drainage facilities and alleged that several culverts had been illegally blocked. They also claimed that haphazardly excavated fisheries had worsened the situation.
According to locals, all agricultural land in the area has been submerged, raising concerns over crop losses and creating a shortage of fodder for livestock. Roads have also gone underwater, making movement difficult, while students have reportedly been forced to wade through knee-deep water to reach school.
Floodwater has entered school premises, leading to the suspension of classes. Residents alleged that the administration had failed to take timely drainage measures despite repeated concerns over blocked culverts.
Locals have demanded immediate action to drain the accumulated water and a permanent solution to improve drainage and prevent artificial flooding in the area.
