ITANAGAR: Agriculture entrepreneur Likha Maaj has offered 10 acres of land to the Arunachal Pradesh government to promote tissue culture technology and encourage its wider use in agriculture and horticulture.
Maaj, lead promoter of Green Gold Integrated Farm, made the offer during a visit to AG Biotech Laboratories (I) Ltd., which specialises in plant tissue culture and agricultural biotechnology.
He urged the state government to make modern agricultural technologies more accessible to farmers and suggested that farmers be given opportunities to visit advanced laboratories and institutions in India to gain practical knowledge of modern farming techniques.
Maaj questioned the need for extensive overseas exposure visits for government officials when comparable facilities are available within the country.
He said tissue culture could provide uniform planting material, improve productivity and strengthen disease management. Wider adoption of the technology, he added, could help increase farm incomes and support Arunachal Pradesh’s agriculture and horticulture sectors.
Maaj proposed that the government consider using the offered land for tissue-culture-based plantations and related activities to bring agricultural biotechnology closer to farmers.
He appealed to the government to examine the proposal and take concrete steps to expand access to the technology.
