Arunachal Pradesh, June 29: In a major push towards adventure tourism and border area development, the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh on Monday, June 29, flagged off the ‘Op Arunoday’ initiative from the historic Jaswantgarh War Memorial.
The project, undertaken as a joint effort between the Gajraj Corps and the National Institute of Mountaineering and Adventure Sports (NIMAS), aims to open and develop the trekking route linking Thingbu with Bajrang Peak (Point 5583). The initiative is designed to strengthen tourism infrastructure, promote civil-military cooperation, and create sustainable livelihood opportunities for communities living in remote frontier regions.
The flag-off ceremony began at the Jaswantgarh War Memorial, where tributes were paid to soldiers who laid down their lives in service of the nation. Following the ceremony, the Chief Minister interacted with members of the expedition team as well as local residents before formally launching the mission.
Officials have described Op Arunoday as a pioneering civil-military partnership that reflects the shared commitment of the Indian Army, NIMAS, and the Government of Arunachal Pradesh towards improving tourism infrastructure, enhancing connectivity, and advancing socio-economic development in border districts.
The initiative is expected to unlock the adventure tourism potential of the region while strengthening engagement between the armed forces and local communities. By promoting trekking and adventure activities in strategically significant frontier areas, the project is also anticipated to generate new employment and income opportunities for residents.
The event highlighted the state government’s continued focus on sustainable development, improved connectivity, and inclusive growth across Arunachal Pradesh’s border regions.
