Itanagar, June 26: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has flagged off Operation Arunoday, a first-of-its-kind civil-military initiative designed to promote adventure tourism while supporting the development of the state’s remote frontier regions.
The expedition is being jointly undertaken by the Indian Army and the National Institute of Mountaineering and Adventure Sports (NIMAS). Its primary objective is to establish and open a trekking route connecting Thingbu village to Bajrang Peak, which stands at an elevation of 5,583 metres in Tawang district.
Announcing the initiative, Khandu said the future of Arunachal Pradesh’s frontier areas depends not only on safeguarding the borders but also on creating opportunities for people to experience these regions in a responsible and sustainable manner.
He said Operation Arunoday is expected to unlock the immense adventure tourism potential of the state, generate new livelihood opportunities for local communities and bring greater recognition to Arunachal Pradesh’s remote border areas.
The Chief Minister extended his best wishes to the expedition team for a safe and successful mission, expressing confidence that the initiative would play a significant role in promoting sustainable tourism and fostering inclusive development in the frontier region.
