Arunachal Pradesh Launches Digital Teacher Transfer System to Improve Transparency and School Staffing

Itanagar, May 28: The government of Arunachal Pradesh has introduced a digitised teacher transfer and posting system aimed at improving transparency, ensuring balanced deployment of teaching staff and strengthening attendance monitoring in schools across the state.

Announcing the implementation of the Arunachal Pradesh Teacher Transfer and Posting Policy Act on Wednesday, Education Commissioner Amjad Tak said the reform forms part of the government’s ‘Reach to Teach’ initiative focused on improving staffing in remote and underserved regions.

A key feature of the new system is the Teacher Registry Portal, an online platform created to digitally manage transfer applications, service records and posting histories of teachers. According to Tak, 16,068 teachers — nearly 97.4 per cent of the state’s teaching workforce — along with 107 ministerial staff members, have already registered on the portal.

The commissioner said the digital platform would maintain detailed records related to teachers, including transfer history, classroom performance, student academic results and medical information. He added that the initiative is expected to improve accountability and reduce irregularities within the education sector.

Tak stated that the transfer policy has been designed while taking into account Arunachal Pradesh’s difficult geographical conditions and the need to reduce inconvenience faced by teachers during transfers and postings.

The Education Department has already issued 2,064 intra-district transfer orders, with more than 1,000 transfers implemented so far. Officials also informed that over 600 teachers have submitted applications for self-transfer through the digital platform.

At the same time, the department clarified that teachers who do not opt for voluntary transfers may still be shifted manually depending on vacancies and staffing requirements, especially in schools facing severe shortages of teachers.

The government is also working towards maintaining the prescribed teacher-student ratio of 1:45 in remote schools and educational institutions across the state.

Tak further warned that teachers who fail to join their new place of posting within 15 days could face action under the provisions of the Act.
