Ashok Sharma Earns India A Call-Up, Replaces Injured Yudhvir

New Delhi: Promising fast bowler Ashok Sharma has been drafted into the India A squad for the ongoing one-day tri-series in Sri Lanka, replacing injured pacer Yudhvir Singh, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced on Tuesday. Ashok, who caught the attention of cricket fans with his raw pace during the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL), is expected to join the squad immediately as India A prepare for a crucial phase of the tournament. The 23-year-old Gujarat Titans pacer had clocked an impressive 154.2 kmph, one of the fastest deliveries of IPL 2026, showcasing his potential as one of India’s emerging fast-bowling talents.

Yudhvir Singh has been ruled out of the series after suffering a right rotator cuff injury. According to the BCCI, the pacer experienced discomfort in his right shoulder while bowling on June 13 and had earlier reported similar pain during a fielding session on June 11. In an official statement, the BCCI said, “The Men’s Selection Committee has named Ashok Sharma as a replacement for Yudhvir Singh in the India A squad for the ongoing tri-series in Sri Lanka.” The board added that Yudhvir would undergo a graduated rehabilitation programme under the supervision of the BCCI Centre of Excellence to ensure a complete recovery.

Ashok had a mixed IPL campaign with Gujarat Titans, claiming six wickets in six matches while consistently troubling batters with his express pace. His inclusion in the India A setup is being viewed as a significant step in his development and could pave the way for higher honours in the future. India A, led by Tilak Varma, have endured a challenging campaign in Sri Lanka, losing two of their first three matches, including a dramatic Super Over defeat to the hosts. The team will now look to revive their fortunes in their upcoming must-win encounter as Ashok prepares for what could be a defining opportunity in his young career.
