The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee’s proposed Youth Conclave has drawn attention after Assam Pradesh Youth Congress president and Algapur–Katlicherra MLA Zubair Anam Majumdar was left out of the committee formed to organise the event.
The conclave is scheduled to be held in Guwahati in the first week of September under the leadership of APCC president Gaurav Gogoi. The event aims to bring young people together to discuss youth participation, ideas and nation-building.
According to an APCC office note dated August 17, Gogoi assigned responsibility for planning and executing the conclave to MLA Dr Jay Prakash Das, former MLA Satyabrata Kalita, Jayanta Khaound, NSUI president Kaushik Kashyap, Ashik Iqbal, Palakshi Das, Birinchi Bora and Kuldeep Rajbongshi.
Majumdar, who heads the State Youth Congress, was not included in the list. The omission has attracted attention given his position as the organisation’s state president.
Reports have previously indicated differences between Gogoi and Majumdar following the Assam Assembly elections. However, there was no independent confirmation that such differences were responsible for Majumdar’s exclusion. The APCC office note also did not give any reason for his omission.
The Congress said the conclave would seek to inspire, educate and mobilise Assam’s youth by providing a platform to exchange ideas and discuss their role in nation-building.
