Guwahati: The Assam Government has imposed a complete ban on all functions and festivals associated with Syamkanu Mahanta, Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Tuesday.
In an official statement, the Chief Minister said that no organisation connected with Mahanta will be allowed to hold any cultural or public event within the state. Furthermore, the government has decided not to provide any financial grant, advertisement, or sponsorship to any event in which Mahanta is directly or indirectly involved.

“The State Government has decided to prohibit Shri Syamkanu Mahanta and any organisation associated with him from holding any functions or festivals within the State of Assam. Further, the State Government will not provide any financial grant, advertisement, or sponsorship to any event with which he is associated, either directly or indirectly. The State Government will also request the Government of India not to extend any financial assistance or sponsorship to him in any manner,” the Chief Minister stated.

The decision is being viewed as a significant move by the state government to distance itself from Mahanta’s activities and to prevent public resources from being used in connection with his initiatives.
