Guwahati : The Assam government has selected 15 teachers from different parts of the state for the State Teachers’ Award 2026, recognising their dedication to education, contribution to students and schools, and exemplary service to the education sector. The awards will be presented on September 5 on the occasion of Teachers’ Day. The selected teachers include Shyamalima Borah, Principal of Malow Ali Higher Secondary School in Jorhat; Bijan Roy Bhowmick, Assistant Teacher at Kamakhya Vidyalay High School in Kamrup Metropolitan; Manab Bharali, Post Graduate Teacher at Govt. Gurdon HS School in Nalbari; Riju Kumar Chutia, Post Graduate Teacher at PM Shri Rahmaria Higher Secondary School in Dibrugarh; and Probin Koch, Post Graduate Teacher at Tezpur Govt. HS School in Sonitpur.

The list also includes Ranendra Kumar Das, Principal of PM Shri Bhella HS School in Barpeta; Azizur Rahman, Post Graduate Teacher at PM Shri Jamadarhat Janata HS School in Dhubri; Manik Chandra Nath, Assistant Teacher at Barapujia HS School in Nagaon; and Bibi Prasad Brahma, Assistant Teacher at Harinaguri High School in Kokrajhar. From the elementary education sector, Pulaska Rajkhowa, Head Teacher of Chowkial LP School in Golaghat; Saranga Nirmalia, Head Teacher of Hatikhali Assamese LP School in Hojai; Diti Moni Dutta, Assistant Teacher at Phatikachowa Abhoipuria MVS in Dibrugarh; Befula Deka Saikia, Assistant Teacher at No. 182 Gobinda Dham LPS in Darrang; Swastyayan Deb, Assistant Teacher at 57 No. Tikal Par TE LPS in Cachar; and Kamsingh Hanse, Headmaster of Bakaliaghat Govt. M.V. School in Karbi Anglong, have also been selected for the honour.
According to the official press release, the selection was carried out through a rigorous, merit-based evaluation of nominations submitted through the designated online portal by District-Level Selection Committees. The assessment considered teachers’ commitment to their responsibilities, their ability to connect subjects with students’ everyday lives, co-scholastic activities, nurturing of students’ talents, development of educational resources, efforts to reduce dropout rates and community participation.

The evaluation also gave importance to contributions made by teachers beyond the classroom. Separate merit lists were prepared for Secondary and Elementary Education, with qualifying cut-offs of 65 marks and 60 marks respectively. Thirteen teachers were recommended on merit, while two additional teachers were selected in recognition of exceptional dedication and contribution to school education, taking the total number of awardees to 15. The award ceremony will be held on Teachers’ Day, September 5, at the Sri Sri Damodardeva International Auditorium, Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra, Panjabari, Guwahati, where the 15 teachers will be formally honoured for their contribution to education.
