Guwahati, May 25: Two of Assam’s most cherished children’s magazines, Mouchak and Notun Aabiskar, have been digitally archived at the University of California, a development described as an important milestone in preserving Assamese literary and cultural heritage.
Assam Minister Bimal Borah shared the update on May 25 through a post on X, stating that the publications, which played a defining role in the childhood memories of generations of Assamese readers, have now become part of an international digital archive.
Highlighting the significance of the development, Borah said the magazines represented stories, language and imagination that shaped young minds over several decades and would now be preserved for a global audience.
Mouchak and Notun Aabiskar have long been recognised as influential Assamese-language children’s publications that introduced readers to literature, science, storytelling and creative thought. Their content helped nurture curiosity and learning among generations of young readers in the state.
The digital preservation of the magazines is expected to improve access for researchers, students and readers worldwide, while also contributing to the long-term protection and promotion of Assamese language, literature and cultural traditions.
