Barpeta Police Recover ₹4.99 Lakh Buried Underground in Theft Case Breakthrough

Barpeta, May 1: In a significant breakthrough, Assam Police recovered ₹4,99,500 in cash buried underground on May 1 following the arrest of a key accused in a high-value theft case in Barpeta.

Police sources said the theft had taken place at the residence of Jagadish Talukdar in the Golia Hati area of Barpeta town, where a substantial amount of cash and valuables were reportedly stolen.

During the investigation, police arrested the prime accused, identified as Nurul alias Geda, a day earlier. Acting on his alleged confession, a search operation was carried out in the Gandhi Nagar area, leading to the recovery of the cash, which had reportedly been concealed beneath the ground.

Officials confirmed that the accused has been formally arrested and further investigation is ongoing to ascertain additional details related to the theft and possible involvement of others.
