Biren Singh Urges Manipur Government to Share Regular Updates on Myanmar Immigrants’ Biometric Data

Former Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on November 3 urged the state Home Department to regularly publish updates on the biometric enrolment of illegal immigrants from Myanmar, saying transparency was essential to maintaining public confidence and addressing national security concerns.

His remarks came a day after the Mizoram government reportedly said biometric enrolment of Myanmar refugees staying in the state had reached its final phase.

In a post on X, Singh said the issue concerned national security, border protection and the future of Manipur’s people, rather than politics. Citing Mizoram’s measures to monitor the influx of Myanmar nationals, he called on the Manipur Home Department to disclose updated figures on biometric data collection, including the number of individuals identified and verified.

He said regular updates would strengthen public confidence and demonstrate the government’s commitment to protecting the state’s security and the interests of its indigenous communities.

In August, Manipur Home Minister Konthoujam Govindas informed the state Assembly that 24,475 illegal immigrants from Myanmar had been detected in the state.
