GUWAHATI, Sept 11: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday named Rajya Sabha member Debashish Sharma as its candidate for the Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency in the upcoming 2026 by-election in Assam.
The BJP’s Central Election Committee approved Sharma’s candidature, according to a press release issued by the party’s central office in New Delhi.
Sharma is a Rajya Sabha member and serves as the BJP’s national headquarters in-charge.
The Nagaon Lok Sabha seat is among the constituencies where a by-election is scheduled to be held in Assam in 2026.
With the announcement, the BJP has begun preparations for the Nagaon bypoll.
